An Ambulance Is Not a ‘Bus’
February 26th, 2010
Individuals that work in the EMS field must perform at a professional level at all times because people’s lives are in their hands. That professionalism is definitely something to take pride in. When others, whether they are in the medical field or not, use slang words for the emergency equipment, these professionals will take offense to it. David Becker, who has been in the EMS business for over 30 years, has stressed his disappointment when people use the slang word ‘bus’ to talk about ambulances. Becker stated, “Let’s not allow slang terms to affect the way the general public looks at EMS. My fear is that the next thing will to be to call those who work on ambulances ‘bus drivers’ and ‘bus riders’, or maybe even bus medics.”
