Dealing With Downtime
March 10th, 2010
Medics do different things with their time while they are not on calls. Some take naps, watch television, and messing around with others. According to Mike Rubin, “only one-third of medics spend their downtime doing other work duties or training.” There are many tasks that can be done while not on a emergency call.
Staying busy with tasks can keep your brain stimulated which will have you prepared when a call does come in. You can wash the ambulance, and make a checklist of pre and post-call duties. Good brain food is good to have in downtime.
There are many things that can be done in your off-time that will help feed your brain so you will be prepared when the time comes to use it. Exercising and napping are important to stay alert, especially for night shifts.
For more things to do in your downtime.
