Training That Comes to You

Training on your schedule and at your location

Education that comes to you is now available from the National EMS Academy.

  • Ever want to get up to date on the latest in EMS care but then find out you have to take a day off or travel to get to the class?
  • Would you like to be able to attend class even if you are unable to travel?
  • Would you like to be able to take a course designed especially for EMS professionals wherever you’re located, but still be able to interact and get the same knowledge and credit hours?
  • Would you like access to the same training programs that the National EMS Academy delivers to the staff of Acadian Ambulance, the largest private EMS system in the nation?

The National EMS Academy is the nation’s first EMS provider approved to deliver continuing education via “Virtual Instructor Led” classrooms.  If you have a phone and a broadband Internet connection you no longer have to travel or change your schedule.  You can access a lesson, ask questions and get clarification from your desk, easy chair or anywhere else you have internet access.

Virtual Instructor Led training allows you to attend class wherever you are, not where the instructor is. And unlike computer based training courses, there is no limit to the number of hours you may attend and it counts just like traditional classroom sessions.

Each VILT session is training you can use right away.  All of our courses are authored and designed specifically for the needs of a working EMT or Paramedic and presented by one of our highly experienced EMS instructors.

Just point your browser to www.onlinenemsa.com and register as a user.  Once you have a free user name, you can consult our Scheduled Courses section and purchase the training you need.
When the scheduled time arrives, simply log back in and click on the link to enter the virtual classroom and take the class.  Once the lesson ends, complete a short, concise exam and gain CECBEMS approved Continuing  Education.

In the month of September, we are offering up to 20 hours of Scheduled “Virtual Classroom” credit.  Just log in at www.onlinenemsa.com and get a look at our constantly expanding schedule of courses.

If you don’t want to take a scheduled course, we also offer an assortment of computer based training courses that you can take anytime, all at very competitive prices!

Friday Night Lights – Are you Ready for Football Season?

It’s that time again, the stadium lights are glowing, teams are practicing and pretty soon EMS crews will  be standing by at football games throughout the land.  While catastrophic injuries are thankfully rare, they do occur.   Are you ready?

When EMS crews are dispatched to an emergency involving a football player, they are confronted with a patient who is encased in a system of protective pads and a full face helmet.  Unless the responder is very familiar with this situation, their first instinctive response is to remove the helmet and pads to gain access to the face, airway and thorax.  Unfortunately, this immediate response in most cases is wrong and increases the chance of permanent spinal injury to the player. ”

  • Did you know that a high school athlete is three times more likely to have a permanent head or neck injury than a college or professional player?
  • Do you know the recommendations from the American College of Sports Medicine for airway access, CPR and spinal immobilization when confronted by an injured player in full protective gear?
  • Do you know how football helmets differ from motorcycle helmets?
  • Do you know how to interact with the trainer, team doctor or other responders on the field?

Even if you know the answers to all these questions, a good refresher before the season begins can literally be a lifesaver.

The National EMS Academy is now offering the same computer based training program we use for Acadian Ambulance’s medical staff each year as we prepare for football season.  You can access the complete CBT from the comfort of your own home at www.onlinenemsa.com using a broadband Internet connection at your own pace.  The lesson is worth one hour of CECBEMS approved CE credit and can be counted as flexible core content in trauma for the National Registry of EMT’s certification process or as additional CE hours.

Taking a course is easy, simply point your browser to www.onlinenemsa.com and register free of charge.  Once you have completed the registration process, you can purchase access to this course or one of our other anytime CBT programs whenever you have the time to complete the program.  We also offer scheduled Virtual Instructor Led  courses which are presented by a live instructor on a convenient repeating schedule.

Hope to see you soon!

OnlineNEMSA.com Launches with Refresher Training

OnlineNEMSA.com has officially launched as of August 1st. The computer based training (CBT) that employees of Acadian Ambulance Service have been using is now available externally for sale online to medics around the globe.

NEMSA Online Education is an online learning management system that will enable medics across the globe access to high quality EMS continuing education via internet access. In addition to the CBT courses, which are interactive but not considered live training, they will be streaming live interactive classes over the internet. This addition of virtual instructor led training (VILT), allows medics to obtain all of their required continuing education credits from any location via internet connection.

This new delivery method of EMS continuing education has been determined to be live education by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Service (CECBEMS) and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians due to the instructor and students real time interaction both visually and through a live audio feed in a virtual classroom environment.

NEMSA Online Education will launch their first VILT session on August 1st, christening a new CECBEMS accreditation category for VILT education. “CECBEMS is committed to promoting the evolution and growth of continuing education standards, and assuring optimal learning experiences,” says E. Jackson Allison, Jr., MD, MPH, FACEP, CECBEMS Chair. “NEMSA has used an evolving technology to meet the needs of the EMS professional. The VILT format assures that interactive training is available globally. VILT activity numbers will include the designation F5 to help EMS professionals identify this new format.”

We are very proud of the hard work that went into making this exciting event happen. Now the training that Acadian medics receive is available to anyone anywhere in the world.

“Trauma Team” (The Game)

In “Trauma Team,” you play through the jobs of 6 medical professionals, including an EMS character. The EMS medic must treat multiple patients after horrible accidents.

Do you think a game is useful for training new medics or for a “Refresher” course?
